We are thrilled to announce that two of our talented BA Graphic and Digital Design students have won prestigious global awards for their outstanding work.

Louis Dawn: D&AD New Blood Award Winner

D&AD New Blood Award project poster by Louis DawnLouis Dawn has been awarded the D&AD New Blood Award 2024 for his project “UMUSIC AUTUMN Reflective Mirrorball Identity.” His work responded to a brief set by Universal Music, focusing on reflections as the primary visual element of the event's branding. His innovative approach to design ensures that employees are prominently featured, emphasising their importance by incorporating their own reflections into the promotional material. The bespoke typeface developed for this project further enhances the minimalist visuals with personality and character, perfectly complementing the reflective aspects of the identity.

The D&AD New Blood Awards is a prestigious annual event that highlights emerging talent in advertising, design, digital, and marketing. Specifically tailored for students, recent graduates, and emerging creatives, this competition provides a global platform for new voices in the creative industry.

Leah Macarewich: ISTD Student Assessment Award Winner

ISTD Student Assessment Award project by Leah MacarewichLeah Macarewich earned recognition through the ISTD Student Assessment 2024 for her project “Linguistic Hybridity.” This work delves into the history and impact of Spanglish in California, a region deeply influenced by Hispanic culture. Through three distinct publications - a typographic music book, a lyric companion, and ‘La Historia’ - Leah explores Spanglish’s role in music and her personal upbringing. Inspired by Mexican Aztec typography, her work serves as an educational tool and cultural bridge, fostering understanding and appreciation among viewers.

The International Society of Typographic Designers (ISTD) is one of the most respected and globally recognised competitions in education. It uniquely values the entire design process, assessing research, reflection, strategy, design development, technical, and production specifications. Successful students are offered full membership in the ISTD.

Fran Méndez, internationally awarded designer and lecturer in Design at the Çï¿ûÊÓƵ, shares:

It's amazing to see the success of our students. At the end of the day, that is the reason why I am a lecturer: to make students believe that with passion and hard work, their efforts will pay off. Well done!

We would like to congratulate our BA Graphic and Digital Design students on their remarkable achievements and look forward to seeing how they continue to shape the future of design.
