Donations from our community of alumni and friends will be used to help Greenwich students to ease the impact of the cost-of-living crisis.

Through the Greenwich Student Fund, a collaboration between the Greenwich Students’ Union and the Alumni and Fundraising team, donations from our community of alumni and friends will be used to help Greenwich students to ease the impact of the cost-of-living crisis.

Alongside setup between the Greenwich Students’ Union and the Çï¿ûÊÓƵ, alumni donations have topped up the Food Vouchers initiative with £10k support.

The initiative provides students who are concerned about not being able to afford food with a £20 voucher that can be used at all main supermarkets.

Thank you to our alumni and friends, who have given generously to support students.

Why we need your help

At Greenwich, we do everything that we can so students feel supported every step of the way and can achieve their ambitions. With the increase cost of food, energy, travel, and accommodation – we know that the rising cost of living is having an impact on many Greenwich students. Over 25 weeks since January 2023, the university has given out 15,781 food vouchers issued to 2,806 students.

Students are concerned about how they will support themselves financially or pay their fees with the cost-of-living crisis as one of the pressures that impacts on their studies. This makes it difficult for students to learn in the classroom as well as make full use of the connections they make and the activities they take part in – all of this has positive outcomes on students.

A survey by the found that:

  • 30% of students said that their income does not cover essential living costs.
  • 50% of students have less than £50 expendable income after essentials have been paid for.
  • 6 out of 10 students rely on their families for financial support.

International students also experience financial difficulties with 37% of sharing they could not afford essentials, that’s 9% more than UK students. In addition, students with declared disabilities, students with caring responsibilities, those from low-income backgrounds, and those commuting from more than an hour away from their primary campus are likely to be worse off across the board.
