Yesterday the Generator held the semi-finals for their annual entrepreneurship competition The Enterprise Challenge. The competition provides mentoring, training and funding for entrepreneurial students who want to pursue an idea with one winning the title of Greenwich Entrepreneur of the Year. The students had three minutes to pitch their ideas and get through to the finals where they could win a share of the £13,000 prize fund. Twenty students pitched their ideas to the judges Hannah Spence, Karen Holden, Ella Stewart and Akil Benjamin.
The businesses are split into two categories a social stream, if the business has a positive environmental or social impact and a commercial stream, for any general business idea. Five students from each category made it through to the finals with ideas including GPS pet collars, a design agency and placenta pills along with one student from the competition held at our partner college in Vietnam.
Rachel Brown, Head of Enterprise and Innovation said of the event "Our semi-final judges were impressed by how willing our students were to listen and take on their advice. They were so excited by the pitches that they've all asked for a ticket to attend the finals at the end of March, so they can find out how much the students have progressed their businesses by then."
The eleven finalists will pitch their ideas at the grand final on the 27th of March to the panel of judges; Peter Le Voir, Ella Weinberg, Tiffany Chiu and Remy Foucher. Tickets will be available to come to the finals, watch the pitches and be the first to see the next Greenwich Entrepreneur of the Year.
