Being able to use numbers effectively is a vital part of everyday life and, in today’s world, understanding and interpreting data is an increasingly important skill.
During your university studies you are likely to be working with numbers and data. Depending on your programme, the mathematics and statistics you need may be numeracy or GCSE level mathematics with which you are rusty, mathematics delivered as part of one of your modules or assumed as background, or advanced statistics for a postgraduate dissertation. If you are having difficulties, whatever the level, help is available! The Greenwich Maths Centre (part of the Faculty of Engineering and Science) offers drop-in sessions which any university student (undergraduate or postgraduate) may attend. MASH@Greenwich (Maths and Stats Help)
Our tutors will help you understand the maths or stats that you need, whatever its level. (If the material is very specialist - for example, the advanced statistics sometimes required by a PhD student - it would be helpful to have advance notice of the problem - email MASH@gre.ac.uk.)
There is currently a mix of online and on-campus drop-in sessions for which there is no need to book - you just turn up at the appropriate time and place or join the MS Teams meeting (but have your lecture notes handy!) We also have an appointment system where you can book a more extended slot for a 1-1 online meeting with a tutor.

MASH April - June 2024
MASH will continue to offer online and on-campus drop-in sessions and 121 online appointments until Friday 11 May. Between Monday 14 May and Friday 5 July there will be no MASH drop-in sessions but online 121 appointments will still be available. The MASH schedule for the July assessment period will be published in due course.

Drop-in sessions
There will be online drop-in sessions 12-2pm every weekday (other than Good Friday and Easter Monday and the May Bank Holiday until Friday 11 May. These will appear on the library calendar at , where you will find instructions on how to join online.
There will be on-campus drop-in sessions at Medway every Tuesday and Wednesday until Wednesday 9 May. These sessions are in the Skills Corner of the Drill Hall Library.
There will be on-campus drop-in sessions at Greenwich every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday until Thursday 10 May. These sessions are in the Grey Booth on the first floor of the Stockwell Street Library (on the same side of the building as the Academic Skills Hub).
121 Appointments
To make a one to one online appointment with a tutor, go to , and click on "Online Appointments" under "Make an Appointment". You specify that you want a MASH tutor, and the system will show you tutors with currently available appointments. You choose a date and time, and the tutor will send you the link to attend the online appointment before the meeting time. Note that not all tutors cover every area - information is shown by the tutor's name. If no appointments are showing, check again later because appointments are added regularly.

Final Comments
If you are having problems with mathematics or statistics during your studies, seek help earlier than later! Many students have had bad experiences of mathematics at school and as a result lack confidence. You will find our MASH tutors helpful and supportive!
