Investigating research misconduct - our procedures

The university is is committed to maintaining the highest standards of rigour and integrity in all aspects of research, here we remind you of our procedures for investigating research misconduct.

In accordance with UUK’s , we maintain procedures for ensuring that allegations of research misconduct can be properly investigated and addressed. Research misconduct can include fabrication; falsification; plagiarism; failure to meet legal, ethical or professional obligations; and misrepresentation of data, involvement, interests, qualifications and publication history.

How allegations are investigated depends on the whether the individual concerned is a student or staff member:

  • Following amendments approved by the Academic Council in 2020/21, allegations of research misconduct against undergraduate and taught postgraduate students are now investigated under the ;
  • Allegations against postgraduate research students are investigated under the ;
  • Allegations against staff are investigated under the .
