Dr Guido Conaldi

Associate Professor in Organisational Sociology

Dr Guido Conaldi is an Associate Professor in Organisational Sociology at the Çï¿ûÊÓƵ, UK, where he has contributed to research and innovation since 2010. As a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and a Certified Management & Business Educator (CMBE), Dr Conaldi integrates cutting-edge research with effective teaching practices.

Dr Conaldi brings a distinctive interdisciplinary approach to his work, bridging organisational sociology, social network analysis, and innovation research to examine the complex interplay between emerging technologies and societal structures. His unique perspective enables him to investigate how digital innovations reshape organisational dynamics and collaborative practices in both traditional and virtual environments. Dr Conaldi has also made significant contributions to the development of quantitative and mixed methods in social network analysis.

His research has been published in top-tier journals such as Organization Science, R&D Management, Organizational Research Methods, Social Networks, and Regulation and Governance. His work on virtual collaborative spaces and the emergence of attention networks in decentralised environments has significant implications for understanding modern organisational dynamics.

Dr Conaldi is currently advancing several research projects. These include an exploration of knowledge transfer mechanisms in virtual spaces, an investigation into the policy diffusion of digital tokens, and a study of the GenAI paradigm shift in higher education. His ongoing research agenda focuses on deepening the investigation into how AI, blockchain, and other emerging technologies reshape governance, collaboration, and innovation processes across sectors.

Dr Conaldi has successfully supervised six PhD students to completion, serving as first supervisor for four of them. These doctoral projects have covered a range of topics aligned with his research interests, including collaboration in fluid organisations, governance of digital tokens, and the evaluation of development strategies in informal settlements.

Dr Conaldi has demonstrated significant leadership in conference organisation. Notably, he led the successful organisation of the 6th European Conference on Social Networks (EUSN2022) at the Çï¿ûÊÓƵ, featuring 100 presenters, 150 participants, over 10 workshops from leading experts, and two major keynote presenters.

As Faculty Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL) Tutor, Dr Conaldi is involved in integrating advanced technologies into Higher Education. His knowledge of blockchain technology and generative AI informs both his research and teaching methods, helping to prepare students for an evolving technological landscape.

As Programme Lead for GBS PGR Programmes from 2016 to 2024, Dr Conaldi made substantial contributions to postgraduate research education. Under his leadership, the programme saw a significant increase in intake and a decrease in withdrawals between 2020-2023 compared to previous years. He successfully implemented a new training model based on workshops, which expanded the methodological expertise offered to students and provided valuable teaching opportunities for early career academics.

Dr Conaldi's influence extends to international academic circles. He has presented at the International Society for Professional Innovation Management (ISPIM) conference, discussing the integration of AI in innovation management education. He has also convened tracks on the teaching of social network analysis methods at international conferences, demonstrating his commitment to advancing the field's pedagogy. Dr Conaldi is a longstanding member of the International Network for Social Network Analysis (INSNA), further underscoring his dedication to the field.

With a PhD from the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies and an MSc from the London School of Economics, Dr Conaldi brings international experience to his work. He has supervised several PhD students and has contributed to the development of postgraduate research education.
