Fouad Bou Zeineddine BA, MA, PhD

Lecturer in Psychology

Fouad Bou Zeineddine joined the Department of Psychology, Social Work and Counselling in May 2023 as a Lecturer in Psychology.

He will be module leader for Social Psychology and a supervisor for BSc Psychology Projects in 2023-2024. He will also teach on a number of other psychology courses. He completed his PhD in Social Psychology at University of Connecticut, USA on the psychology of activism and collective action in prefigurative political movements (e.g., permaculture) in 2015.

Recognition

Fouad is an Associate Editor of Peace & Conflict: The Journal of Peace Psychology. He was Associate Editor of the Journal of Social and Political Psychology from 2020-2023. He is a member of the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI) and the International Society for Political Psychology (ISPP). He has been a reviewer for numerous journals, including the British Journal of Social Psychology, European Journal of Social Psychology, Mobilization, New Ideas in Psychology, and many others.

Research / Scholarly interests

Fouad studies the psychology of political resistance and resilience, with special interest in how these relate to social dilemmas. This includes research on:

  • Civic political and environmental behaviour and activism
  • Elite collective action
  • Societal change and inertia
  • Prefigurative political movements and mutual aid
  • Collective historical memory
  • Individual differences in support for resistance against social oppression

In another line of research, Fouad also examines international and intersectional biases and exclusion in the systems of knowledge production, dissemination, and consumption in social science.
