Genevieve Breau

Dr Genevieve Breau PhD, FHEA

Lecturer in Public Health

Genevieve is a Lecturer in Public Health at the School of Human Sciences, Çï¿ûÊÓƵ

Much of her research has focused on how vulnerable and medically underserved populations access primary and preventive health care. She uses quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods, and knowledge synthesis techniques. Her research interests have included the health of adults with intellectual disabilities (learning disabilities), psychosocial care of cancer patients, and maternal mental health.

She is also the programme lead for the BA Hons In Health and Social Care top-up programme. She has also led modules in the BSc Public Health and Public Health Extended programmes, and the MSc. in Global Public Health and Global Health Management programmes.

Prior to joining the Çï¿ûÊÓƵ, much of Genevieve's teaching programme also focused on health disparities and vulnerable populations. She has taught modules on non-communicable diseases, health systems and policy, and health communication.

Responsibilities within the university

Since July 2023, she has been the programme lead for the BA (Hons) in Health and Social Care top-up programme. She has also led modules in the BSc Hons in Public Health and Public Health Extended programme, the BA Hons in Health and Social Care (top-up) programme, and the MSc. in Global Public Health and Global Health Management programmes. She also supervises undergraduate and postgraduate student dissertations. Finally, she has an active research program on health issues in people with intellectual disabilities (learning disabilities), psychosocial care of cancer patients, and maternal mental health, and she is the Early Career Researcher representative for the School of Human Sciences.

Research / Scholarly interests

Genevieve's overarching program of research examines healthcare access for vulnerable and medically underserved populations. Much of her research has focused on adults with intellectual disability (learning disabilities), and how they access primary and preventive care. She has also conducted research on the psychosocial needs of cancer patients, and how they access healthcare from primary care providers and specialists. Finally, a current project is building a web-enabled resource for parents who have given birth who experience postpartum mental illness.
