Senior Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing

Joseph is a mental health nurse by background and joined the Çï¿ûÊÓƵ in August 2024. Before joining the Çï¿ûÊÓƵ, Joseph was teaching at the University of Bedfordshire, where he taught on the BSc and MSc nursing programmes. Joseph began his academic career at Huddersfield University before joining the University of Bedfordshire in June 2022. Joseph completed his nurse training at the University of Essex and pursued post-graduate studies at the University of East Anglia, where he obtained an MSc in Clinical Research. Joseph has primarily worked in Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire throughout his clinical career. During this time, he has worked in psychiatric intensive care units (PICUs), recovery wards, community mental health teams (CMHTs), and Crisis services, with a focus on psychiatric liaison. He has held various roles in clinical practice, including ward manager, community psychiatric nurse (CPN), and lead practitioner. Joseph is a strong advocate for least restrictive practice in mental health nursing and actively promotes the implementation of this approach.

Responsibilities within the university

  • Joseph is a Senior Lecturer in Mental Health nursing and provides teaching and learning support activities at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, working closely with Academic Portfolio Leads
  • His responsibilities include designing, planning, and reviewing resources for teaching and learning, as well as assessing and monitoring student progress
  • Joseph also collaborates with the public participation group to integrate lived experiences into student recruitment and assessment processes
  • He conducts learning environment audits to evaluate placement capacity and the ability to support students
  • Additionally, Joseph participates in the recruitment process by conducting interviews with prospective candidates and engaging in open days.
