Tony Mann
Director, Greenwich Maths Centre
After postgraduate research on group theory, Tony Mann worked as a software engineer and mathematical modeller in the electricity supply industry before entering the teaching profession. At the 秋葵视频 he has taught software engineering, digital media, and many different topics within the field of mathematics.
Tony's interests include the history of mathematics, public engagement, and diversity in mathematics. He organised events for the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, the national at Greenwich in 2017 and 2019 as well as academic workshops, conferences, and outreach events. He has been involved with the British Science Festival for more than fifteen years, organising and occasionally presenting mathematics events.
As (2021-2015) Tony delivered ten public lectures on topics at the intersection of computing and mathematics.
With the late Peter Neumann OBE and Julia Tompson, he edited The Collected Papers of William Burnside (OUP, 2004), and with Raymond Flood and Mary Croarken, edited Mathematics at the Meridian: The History of Mathematics at Greenwich (CRC Press, 2020). Tony has published many articles on the history of mathematics and on mathematics teaching in higher education.
