Bob Tsukada Bright

Senior Lecturer

Biography:

Bob is a graduate of Queen Mary College, University of London with a BA (Combined Hons.) in French and German. He has an RSA Diploma in TEFL, an MA in TESOL from the Institute of Education and is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Southampton. He also has a keen interest in e-learning and its applications to SLA and has been awarded the CertICT: Certificate in Teaching Languages with Technology, an online international qualification validated by Trinity College, London. Bob has many years’ experience as a teacher and teacher-trainer in the UK and Japan. He is currently programme leader for the International Foundation Programme with Cultural Studies and teaches on a number of courses on the BA English Language and ELT.

Research Interests:

His research interests lie in the area of classroom discourse and in particular the interaction between teachers and second language learners in classroom settings. The specific focus of his research is that of the teacher explanation – and is investigating the latter in the area of second language learning of vocabulary within a sociocultural theoretical framework.
