Research / Scholarly interests

David Waterworth's research interests lie in mapping processes and practices of representation, production and dissemination in visual culture.

He was selected for a three-month curatorial research residency in 2019 at the Serlachius Museums, Finland where he explored indexical links between the museum's collections and the town where they are located.

Between 2011 and 2015 he directed a series of exhibition projects and accompanying catalogues on London artists' studios, focussing on two South London collectives: Greenwich Artists’ Studios Association and Stockwell Depot. This research is ongoing and feeds into a wider departmental interest in how creative practice is sustained in the city.

Through his curatorial role at the University galleries, David regularly supports research initiatives from across the University, where exhibitions have a valuable part to play in the development of ideas and dissemination of outcomes
