Dr Rob Amos
Lecturer in Law
Rob joined Greenwich University in 2022 as a Lecturer in Law. He has previously worked as an Assistant Professor in Environmental Law at Nottingham University, an Associate Researcher at UCL and a Research Fellow at Sussex University. Rob completed his PhD, which addressed the conservation of plants in international law, at Sussex University in 2017, his LLM at UCL in 2013 and his LLB at Swansea University in 2012.
In addition to his work at Greenwich, Rob is co-lead of a research project with colleagues at UCL exploring how sustainability is, could and should be pursued in the higher education sector.
Rob’s work on conservation law has been recognised internationally. He is also involved in several international conservation charities. Principal among these is the Alpine Garden Society, for which Rob convenes the Conservation Steering Group.

Research / Scholarly interests
Rob’s research interrogates the relationships between the natural world and society, challenging unsustainable status quos that drive the climate and ecological emergency. Current projects include monographs on advancing agroecology in international law and sustainability in higher education, and articles on environmental law pedagogy.
More specifically, Rob is interested in;
- International environmental law, particularly as it relates to conservation and biodiversity
- Rights of nature and ecocentric legal theories
- Environmental justice
- Sustainability education
Rob welcomes PhD proposals on any of the above. He is particularly keen to supervise projects with a strong interdisciplinary element, either within law or between law and another subject.
