Introduction and rationale
In terms of curriculum, the course has been developed to address the issues of creating a fundamental knowledge of storytelling through motion graphics and kinetic image, as well as investigate the relationships between a physical and a virtual object. It is essential that students learn how to manifest ideas through experimentation and the physical act of making, while at the same time understanding the links between practice and research.
This course encourages students to engage with the possibilities of narrative and sequence and develops their critical understanding technical expertise in this.

Aims
The aims are to:
Provide an understanding of the different sequential media and of visual and the language of kinetic image. Provide the student with a comprehensive overview of the concepts & techniques of communicating narratives in a variety of sequential media. Introduce the concept of the image and the sequence on an economic, cultural and political level. Provide students with the skills to create effective motion graphics. Introduce students to technical skills sufficient to produce pre-production documents and final productions.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this course a student will be able to:
1. Discuss and apply the basic concepts of narrative and story structure.
2. Learn about the image and its power to communicate through a 鈥渟creen.鈥�
3. Understand the impact of the screen and current techniques in the development of kinetic images.
Indicative content
This course will cover a range of subject areas, including but not limited to:
Ways of recording the process and evaluating outcomes. How to tell a story through characters, shapes and motion graphics. The structure of narrative; and kinetic image. Storyboarding; Experimenting with different ways of communicating narrative sequence
Teaching and learning activity
The learning and teaching activities will be divided evenly between lectures, lab sessions & seminars. Lectures will be provided to present & explain key concepts & techniques. Lab sessions will enable students to gain practical software skills. Seminars will develop ideas & practical skills that do not require the use of software.
Assessment
Presentation & Critique - 40% weighting, 40% pass mark. LO 1-3. Outline Details: The presentation will focus on:
Progression of student work.
Reflection and criticality towards the brief.
Creative interpretation and research outcomes.
Portfolio Submission - 60% weighting, 40% pass mark. LO 2 & 3. Outline Details: The final Critique through the portfolio should demonstrate:
Professional Finish.
Research, Critical reflection and Methodology.
Documentation of all forms of visual research.
