Law of Contract, Law of Torts.

The course is designed to provide an in-depth understanding and a sound knowledge of key areas of domestic and international commercial law that students may later encounter in legal practice, either in the City or on the High Street. In addition, the course is designed to enhance wider employability skills and commercial awareness by requiring that students view their learning in a wider context.

On successful completion of this module a student will be able to:

6 Demonstrate, skills of independent research problem-solving and autonomous study in finding legal and non-legal solutions to complex factual scenarios

The course will be taught by means of one two hour lecture and one seminar per week. The structure of the course in terms of substantive law is to develop the knowledge and understanding of domestic commercial law before studying aspects of international commercial law in terms 1 and 2. Seminar questions are provided based on problem based scenarios and essay type questions that students will work on in small groups. Problem based question: 40% weighting, 40% pass mark.
Learning Outcomes: 1, 2, 4, 5 & 6.
Word Length: 3500 words.
Outline Details: Independent research assignment. A problem question set on an aspect of Commercial Law that has not been fully lectured. The purpose of this assignment is to enable students to achieve, in particular, the learning outcomes of independent research and autonomous study.

Exam: 6-% weighting, 40% pass mark.
Learning Outcomes: 1, 2, 3, 4 & 6.
Outline Details: Mixture of essay and problem questions in a 3 hour exam with 15 minutes reading time.
