What you need to know

Accessibility

The university is a partner of , the UK’s leading provider of detailed disabled access information.  The guide helps students, visitors and staff plan their journey to and around our campuses.

English Heritage

  • Many of our buildings are English Heritage and as such, permission for works must be given by Historic England.  Please give us as much notice as possible for such works so that we have adequate time to liaise with Historic England.  Not all requests can be met, so we would strongly advise there is some flexibility built into your requests.
  • To protect these buildings and to abide by the rules set by Historic England, we must not fix any temporary signage to walls or doors with blue tack, tape, pins, etc.

Health & Safety

  • Induction – for staff and students.  Your faculty/directorate will also provide you with local H&S induction.
  • All accidents/incidents should be reported as soon as possible to Health & Safety Services.
  • Planned fire alarm tests take place weekly in all buildings.  These will sound for under a minute and vacation of the building is not required.  Should an alarm last longer, you must leave the building and report to fire assembly point.
  • Statutory building evacuation drills are held once a term and can be either announced or unannounced.  This is to ensure that staff and students are aware of the university’s expectations in the unlikely event of an emergency.  Everyone is expected to actively participate.
  • Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs) for staff or students who might need some additional time or help to evacuate.
  • Please observe lecture finish times to ensure free movement around our academic buildings and avoid potential overcrowding.
  • Health & Safety guidance provided by the university’s Health & Safety Services team.
