Ukraine: Information for students and staff

We are a community made up of people from all around the world and we stand together in support of one another in times of distress. Here we provide information of how you can receive support from us.

The thoughts of everyone at our university are with those affected by the conflict in Ukraine.

We are a community

We have staff and students from Ukraine who we have reached out to directly, but we know we also have staff and students from surrounding areas who may be affected by the conflict in different ways.  In partnership with the GSU we will continue to reach out to students from the affected areas.

Here we are sharing how you can receive support

Our support services are available to all members of our community, in addition to the information published on 24 February, there are also:

Student Wellbeing Service

Our Wellbeing services are here to support students who are affected by the ongoing crisis. You can access counselling, mental health and wellbeing support by completing our self-referral form.

You can also have a chat with one of our counsellors, mental health and wellbeing colleagues at the drop-in sessions which will be hosted by the Chaplaincy team across the 3 campuses

Drop-in sessions

Our Chaplaincy team are here to help you.  They offer help and guidance to all students and staff regardless of individual belief - find out more about them and how you can contact them on their webpages.

At Medway campus, our World Cafe takes place every Wednesday in Blake building from midday to 2pm.  Everyone is welcome to attend, or you can email Lynne Martin at medwaycampuschaplain@gre.ac.uk

Support from the GSU

The GSU also have a dedicated webpage - - which includes information on wellbeing support, how students can request a check-in call and details of events taking place.

Student visa questions or concerns

If you need advice on making a new UK visa application for yourself or dependants, we are here to help you. We understand that this may have increased importance or urgency and we will prioritise your case. If you would like to speak to an immigration adviser, please contact the International Student Advice Service.

Extenuating Circumstances

We recognise that you may find it difficult to focus on your studies and/or upcoming assessments at this time. The university's Extenuating Circumstances Procedure is there to support you where the impact of the conflict may affect your performance in or ability to undertake an assessment.

Free, confidential support for staff

Colleagues can access free information, advice and confidential support through the university’s Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) run by CiC.
