Efficiency of speed-reading techniques: A Comparative analysis
Project aim
The aim of this research is to study and analyse the impact of speed-reading techniques on reading speed and comprehension.
Project outline
To do that, five techniques were chosen for this research:
- Stopping regression
- Pacing
- Chunking words
- Peripheral vision
- Bionic reading
A web application was developed to test each of these techniques. Eight people took part in the research conducted at the Çï¿ûÊÓƵ.
The participants were asked to read two texts, one without any techniques applied and one with a technique applied. Reading speed and comprehension levels were recorded for each participant for both texts.
The results show that while 75% of the people increased their reading speed using the speed-reading techniques, their comprehension levels varied significantly.
On average, they scored lower comprehension results on the second text (using speed-reading techniques) compared to the first one.
The findings of this study indicate that using speed-reading techniques leads to an increase in reading speeds among people; however, it also leads to differences in comprehension levels. This suggests that while people may read faster when applying speed-reading techniques, their ability to comprehend the material may be compromised to some extent.
