We offer various opportunities for professional development for staff on our taught programmes. These programmes are designed to enhance and develop your knowledge and skills in pedagogy, and are facilitated by experts in the field from our Academic and Learning Enhancement Team.

Academic Professional Apprenticeship (APA)
18 months, 60 credits at Level 7 & FHEA, apprenticeship version of the PGCert. It is perfect for new academic staff who are new to teaching or have less than five years’ experience of teaching in HE. Our APA is accredited by Advance HE and also awards Fellowship on completion. Our APA programme is only for staff employed at the Çï¿ûÊÓƵ. 20% of your working schedule will be allocated to pursuing the APA.
Members of staff employed at the Çï¿ûÊÓƵ interest in the PGCert or APA will automatically be assigned to one or the other depending on .
Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCert)
13 months, 60 credits at Level 7. It too is perfect for those who are new to teaching or have less than five years’ experience of teaching in higher education. We also welcome those with more experience that may be wishing to get a professional qualification. In addition, our PGCert is accredited by Advance HE and in awards Fellowship on completion. Our PGCert programme is open for both staff employed by the Çï¿ûÊÓƵ and external students.

Award of Institutional Credit in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (ALTHE)
9 months, 20 credits at Level 7. This is ideal for those in supportive or teaching-only roles - For those who may not conduct the full range of assessment, curriculum design and quality assurance activities. Our ALTHE programme is accredited by Advance HE and also awards Associate Fellowship on completion. It is open for both staff employed by the Çï¿ûÊÓƵ and external students.
Those who complete our ALTHE can also use this towards completing our PGCert programme.

Practical Teaching Course (PTC)
Our Practical Teaching Course is our non-credit bearing programme for those who are looking to begin developing some key skills in their teaching practice. Taking place each term during the academic year, the course offers a series of 5 sessions that cover various higher education teaching themes, such as; How we learn, inclusive teaching, engaging students, and developmental assessment and feedback. The course runs over a 3-4 week period and is only available to staff employed at the Çï¿ûÊÓƵ.
