If you're a new student, we'll need to confirm your documents before we can issue your student ID card.
How we process your document checks depends on where and how you'll be studying. If you're studying a teaching qualification, are a distance learner, based at a partner college, or continuing student, please see the information in the drop-down boxes below.
Once you've completed Online Registration and submitted your qualifications, you can collect your Student ID card.
Online registration and all document checks must be completed in full before the registration deadline.
New on-campus students
If you're starting a new course with us at Greenwich, Avery Hill, or Medway, your Document Checks will include:
- An online check of your qualifications by email (documentchecks@gre.ac.uk)
- An on-campus check of your identification and any relevant immigration documents
Make sure you've completed your online registration before you come in to collect your Student ID card.
Qualification check
You will need to email scans or clear photographs of all of the qualifications that meet the entry requirements of your course, including any GCSEs or level 2 qualifications (notably English, Mathematics and Science subjects) to documentchecks@gre.ac.uk.
Please include your full name, Student ID number (i.e. 00XXXXXX) and course in the subject of your email. If your qualifications are in a previous name, you will also need to send evidence proving your change of name (such as a marriage certificate or deed poll).
You should aim to send all required documents to us at least 10 working days before the start of your course. If your documents are not of suitable quality, documents are missing, or there is no reference to your Student ID number, we might not be able to complete your document check. If we need to contact you for more information it can delay your registration.
If your qualifications are not in English, they must be accompanied by a certified translation.
Identification check
When you arrive on campus, you will need to provide original, valid, in-date, authentic identification in person to collect your Greenwich Gateway card. You will also need to provide any relevant immigration documents (such as a BRP or share code).
You can find a list of accepted forms of ID on our collecting your student card page.
Copies, non-originals, photos or expired identity documents cannot be used or accepted.
Trainee Teacher students
We are unable to accept scans or photocopies of your qualifications and must see all of your original certificates when you come and collect your student card.
We must see your original degree certificate if you are studying a postgraduate qualification, and cannot accept just your transcript, enhanced diploma or e-certificate.
If your qualifications are in a previous name, you will also need to send additional evidence showing your change of name (such as a marriage certificate or deed poll).
When you arrive on campus, you will need to complete the same identity checks as other on-campus students, so will need to provide original, valid, in-date, authentic identification in person to collect your Greenwich Gateway card. You will also need to provide any relevant immigration documents (such as a BRP or share code).
You can find a list of accepted forms of ID on our collecting your student card page.
Your identity and qualification documents will need to be scanned and stored against your student record.
Continuing students
If you're continuing the same programme of study into the next academic year, you do not need to repeat your identity or qualification checks. If you've completed one degree (e.g. a BSc) and are moving to a new course (e.g. an MSc), you will need to complete qualification and identity checks again as you are classified as a new student.
If you have changed your name since starting your course, please bring evidence of your new name (e.g. marriage certificate or deed poll) to one of our Student Centres to have your student record and Student ID card updated.
Provided there are no issues with your account (overdue fees, pending health checks, etc), you should be able to complete Online Registration when it opens. Your account, IT access, and Student ID card will stay active.
New distance-learning students
After finishing Online Registration, you must email scans or clear photographs of your identification and qualifications to documentchecks@gre.ac.uk.
Please include your full name, Student ID number (i.e. 00XXXXXX), and course in the subject header of your email.
Identification
You will need to provide original, valid, authentic identification as follows:
Student Type | Acceptable forms of Identity |
---|---|
UK Resident born in the UK with British nationality | Current, valid and in-date passport or UK driving licence or Original UK birth certificate |
UK Resident not born in the UK with British nationality | Current, valid and in-date passport or UK driving licence with original certificate of naturalisation (where all details on both documents match) |
International Students including EU or EEA National and Overseas Resident | Current, valid passport or EU identity card or "Travel Document". If your passport is being held by the immigration authorities, provide the original official receipt and a letter confirming your name, place and date of birth. |
Qualifications
You will need to provide original, valid, authentic qualifications that form part of the entry requirements for your course. This will usually include GCSEs (notably English Language, Mathematics and Science), as well as Level 3 qualifications such as BTECs and A levels.
Even if you have provided these at the admissions stage or sent them to a member of academic staff, please still complete this step.
If this evidence is not presented in English, it must be accompanied by a certified translation.
If your qualifications are in a different name, we will also need to see evidence showing your current and previous names (such as a marriage certificate or deed poll).
New students on a CAS
If you are an international student with a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), you do not need to send us your qualifications as they will have already been checked by our International Office.
New Partner and Network College students
If your college has not already contacted you after finishing Online Registration, you may want to contact them about your identification and qualification checks.
Once these have been completed by your college, confirmation will be sent to the University for processing.
